Magic of Early Autumn: Exploring the Equinox and Libra Season

libra-season-autumn-equinox

As the greens of summer gently transition into the golden tones of autumn the energy shifts. The season signifies a period of transformation, equilibrium, and contemplation. The Autumn Equinox, or Mabon, coinciding with the start of Libra season, offers a unique spiritual opportunity to synchronize with nature’s cadence and seek harmony in our lives. It’s time to shed the leaves that are ready to go.

THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF AUTUMN

Autumn is a time of balance. It is a moment to contemplate the harvest—both literal and metaphorical—celebrating plenty and preparing for the winter months ahead.

As nature shifts, we are called to embrace change, release what no longer serves us, and nurture the seeds we’ve sown throughout the year.

Spiritually, autumn invites introspection, grounding, and gratitude. It is also a season for praying for a gentle winter that won’t strain us too much and allow us to remain in good shape until spring arrives.

It is a time to prepare for the approaching darkness. Summer days are over—it’s time to complete tasks before it becomes too cold and dark.

AUTUMN EQUINOX

During the Autumn Equinox, the sun shines directly over the equator, providing equal light to both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This is a celebration of perfect balance.

Day and night are of equal length, and in yogic traditions, feminine and masculine energy are balanced during the Equinox. This is one of the most powerful times to transcend our limitations caused by narratives we create in our need for self-definition. We all struggle with being overly identified with something—viewing ourselves as feminine or masculine, work-oriented or family-focused, good at sports or not, successful or not.

But the Equinox offers us a different kind of energy. At its time we are not too feminine or not sufficiently masculine. We are it all, in perfect balance, and we can step outside the confines of our everyday minds. And if we are everything, we can do it all, feel it all, and attract possibilities into our lives that we never knew existed for us.

MABON

The Equinox aligns with the ancient Celtic and Pagan festival, Mabon, dedicated to honoring the balance of light and dark. Our ancestors gathered to pay tribute to Mother Earth and express gratitude for the summer crops. Mabon marked a milestone in the yearly calendar, a turning point.

As we are not so different from our ancestors, we can also pause for a moment to reflect on what this means for us and how it makes us feel—what we can be grateful for, what we need to leave in the summer days, and where we want the autumn transformation to take us.

LIBRA SEASON: SEEKING HARMONY AND TAKING PRECAUTIONS

Libra season, ruled by Venus, emphasizes balance, relationships, beauty, and love.

It’s a period to nurture connections and seek inner balance.

Depending on the placement of other planets, it may mean different things—it might bring the most romantic experiences you’ve ever had, or it may highlight imbalances in your current relationships, revealing truths you wished could remain hidden a little longer.

Libras like to evaluate every detail as they cherish and protect their peace of mind. As they avoid taking risks, this time of year is perfect for implementing precautions you’ve been postponing. It’s a time to buy insurance, schedule overdue medical checkups, and finally start taking your supplements.

OUR FAVORITE MAGICAL PRACTICE FOR AUTUMN

Autumn is the ultimate season for witchy endeavors. Magic during this time revolves around themes of transformation, protection, and abundance. Here are a few practices to incorporate:

PROTECTION SPELLS ·  Prepare for the darker days ahead, as they tend to bring more shadow into our lives than we wish to welcome. Our favorite protective herb is rosemary—you can place pots of it on your windowsills or buy a dried rosemary bundle to use as incense.
Regarding crystal magic, BLACK TOURMALINE is always an excellent choice for dispelling negativity. Placing it near your front door can help keep dark vibes at bay.

ABUNDANCE MAGIC · Our favorite autumn spice is cinnamon. Its invigorating warmth is synonymous with abundance. Our simple yet effective spell to welcome October (or any month of your choice) is to place powdered cinnamon on your palm and blow it through your front door. It’s a spell to invite abundance into your life in all forms—whether material, health, or love-related. Abundance is simply all the good things in a sweet overflow. This spell is so easy and effortless that we love it to the moon and back.

Autumn is a rich tapestry of spiritual significance, offering a sacred space for introspection, gratitude, and transformation. By embracing the energies of the Equinox, Libra season, and magical practices, we align ourselves with nature’s rhythm and open our hearts to the possibilities of change and growth.

As we journey into the depths of autumn, may we find balance, beauty, and connection to our inner self.

Those can help you in your journey
